"From E-mail"

Your E-mail Submissions

varietasex We get quite a bit of e-mail -- almost all of it related to the sexual topics.

Some is not intended for publication -- only to make us aware of things.  Some asks for personal advice, but for a variety of legal and professional reasons we can't offer advice. (Occasionally, we will direct writers to other postings or articles on the site that might be helpful.)

Some e-mail we do publish -- generally with rewriting and condensation. (We get letters that span several pages.)

When you submit e-mail, we assume that -

1. You wrote it.

2. It's true.

3. That by submitting it you are granting permission for publication -- unless you specify otherwise. Keep in mind that we don't use your name and we typically change "identifying" elements, such as names and locations.

4. And, finally, even if we don't use your e-mail, we read it and it ends up shaping the content of this site.

Constructing Quotes, Etc.

      >> We often construct quotes that are consistent with the original e-mail. We've heard that people find this form easier and more interesting to read and understand. Although we always try to stay honest to the original letters, in many cases we use literary license in our rewrites to hold reader interest. Many submissions stand on their own and require no editing.  Blackboard Jungle Experience is one example.

We've been told that our rewriting "homogenizes" the writing and condenses the time line. Given the rewriting that's often needed there seems no way to avoid this.

We do have a few lengthy history accounts that have been transcribed from personal sessions with the people involved. Two examples are: A Case History of a Carefully Staged Black-on-White Extramarital Affair and Jealousy: Overcoming My Worst Fear.

Personal Replies

      >> Because of the need to protect the writer's privacy and the fact that e-mail is not always secure, replies when sent are typically only in the form of an acknowledgment that the e-mail has been received.

A Niche Audience?

      >>  Yes, we have a rather specialized audience -- especially when it comes to the sex-related topics.

Soon after starting this site we discovered that there was no way we could represent all of the areas of interest reflected by the letters we were getting (some 500 when we first started).

We found it interesting that many letters that dealt with the hotwife and cuckold husband theme were from doctors, lawyers, and professional men and women. Although, initially, we weren't too familiar with this area, we were told that it wasn't realistically served elsewhere.

Specializing seemed to be a good way not only to cut down on the topics, but to learn additional things about human sexuality. Once that decision was made, we started getting letters reflecting this specific area of interest (and eliminating others).

Reality or Fantasy?

      >>  This is often hard to determine because we've found that seemingly implausible descriptions of experiences have, upon investigation, turned out to be true.

At the same time, we know that some of these letters -- we're not always sure which -- are fantasies. But, even if they are, they reveal human thinking and desires.

Copyright

      >>  An important note about copyright. After getting a letter from a person who was upset to find her letter picked up by another site -- a "very raunchy site," in her words -- we feel it necessary to emphasize copyright restrictions.

Therefore, it needs to be understood that once letters are published here they come under our exclusive copyright control.

When you send an e-mail to us you are hereby granting permission for it to be edited as necessary and published on this site. Don't worry about it being traced back to you.  Once we publish a letter, typically after significant rewriting, we destroy the original letter and e-mail address.

      >>   Finally, your e-mail is not only much appreciated, but it has added to our understanding of contemporary sexual attitudes and behaviors. This, in turn, has helped us in selecting articles that we feel would be of the greatest benefit to our readers. We try to select letters that show informative, enlightened and progressive sexual views.
