Ma and What Is
Part 7
More important than the details of Ma's life, as impressive as they might be, was how she did these things. The secret is in her message, a message that, admittedly, represents a rather high bar. She said, in effect, to constantly "think God" so you can ultimately become one in your thinking with this singular essence. Ma was able to completely dissolve her ego and be a clear channel to the Ultimate Self. How do we "think God?" She said that in daily meditation and even throughout the day that we should silently chant a name for God -- any name we associate with this Ultimate Self of the universe. (A side benefit is that it will get you mind off of your problems!) There are thousands of names for God; pick one that is most meaningful to you. Ma recommended getting into the habit of synchronizing breathing with the silent repetition. Early in her life Ma chanted (both silently and out loud),"hari, hari, hari." When people from another religion took exception to that name, she changed to other names. Like she said, it doesn't matter as long as you associate the name closely with God.
Conversely, when our mind is polluted with transient, illusionary matters, our being is pulled deeper into the quicksand of the illusion. The "mental pollution" consists of the fears, jealousies, worries, and, of course, the materialistic and purely sensual endeavors we dwell on.
Ma represented a clear channel to the Ultimate Reality; she was an example of what we could expect once we are able to get beyond the ego and become an unrestricted channel to what is.
And On a VeryPersonal Note
Not too long ago I had a dream involving a small a child. In the dream there was this little girl that was in the process of following her father through a revolving door. Her father went on, but the little girl stopped and looked back at me. It looked as if she was going to get left behind, so I tried to catch up with her. That's all I remember. The dream was over.
I am a little child and you are my parents. Accept me as such and give me a place in your hearts. By saying "Mother" you will keep me at a distance. Mothers have to be respected. But a little girl needs to be loved and looked after and is dear to the hearts of everyone. So this is my only request to you: to make a place for me in your hearts. A coincidence? If you say so.
