The Irreverent Reverend --
Why Non-Attachment
I guess I always thought this idea of non-attachment was about letting go of vices and "sinful pursuits."
It's much more basic.
It took a major heart attack to get me to think and re-evaluate. Suddenly most stuff -- all the stuff that seemed so important in my life -- the stuff that had been driving me all these years -- wasn't that important.
When you are staring death in the face, none of the worldly crap matters any more. Suddenly you get a radically new perspective.

I started with forgiving the people that screwed me and screwed with me.
I forgave them.
I let go of the things I did to people
that I felt guilty about. I forgave myself.
I've decided that attachment is anything -- big or small -- that messes with your mind, that you are angry about, fearful of,
or that threatens to destroy your peace of mind.
It can really make a difference in
your life!
